Why is our name Pineapple Post?

A Pineapple on a Post means you are most welcome to come visit us! The pineapple became a symbol of hospitality in America during colonial times. Seafaring captains who sailed to the Caribbean Islands would return to the colonies with exotic fruits, spices and rum. The most exotic of the fruits was the pineapple, and according to legend, a returning captai n would place a pineapple on his gatepost to let friends and neighbors know he had returned safely and they were welcome to come visit. Indoors, colonial hostesses placed a fresh pineapple in the center of often elaborate tabletop displays to symbolize the utmost in hospitality to their guests. The universal symbol of hospitality can now be seen on everything from gateposts to bedposts, fountains to finials and serving trays to pillows.
